THIS IS NOT A DONE DEAL!
Please note- Many of these news stations reported that the quarry was approved which is not true. The facts are the applicant, Gorham Sand and Gravel, has not purchased the land, the Alfred Planning Board never held a final vote to approve the Finding of Facts, nor did the Alfred Code Enforcement Officer sign the applicant's Land Use Permit. In opposition to what the applicant has reported on their Facebook page, THIS IS NOT A DONE DEAL!

On April 28, 2025, the applicant filed correspondence for a Site Plan Review Application for the project to the town. The Planning Board has received numerous items of correspondence and public input from concerned citizens concerning the project since receipt of the application materials and is seeking independent third party review of the application materials in light of said public input to evaluate whether the application meets the performance standards specifically identified by the Planning Board as requiring independent review as outlined in Attorney Rachin's July 30, 2025 email to Elizabeth Ransom. Miami Lake Lifestyle- "Blasting at White Rock Quarries has been taking place in NW Miami-Dade County for 20+ years. As communities started to move out West more and more homeowners found themselves dealing with cracked walls, pools, ceilings, floors, roof tiles, and slanted door frames. For the first time ever there is a video from inside of a home in Miami Lakes being raddled by one of the daily blasts."
Please note- There are so many resources related to the dangers of Silica Dust; notably, most are related to worker health. COA asks- Who is monitoring and looking out for those who are exposed to Silica Dust due to close proximity to blast sites, residual dust from traveling dump trucks, or unknowingly from the microscopic dust particles that can travel 50+ miles via the wind? Silica is invisible to the naked eye and can reach the deepest parts of your lungs. Any exposure is dangerous. THE DANGERS ARE KNOWN. THE THREAT IS REAL. BUT NO ONE IS LOOKING OUT FOR US!
Example recorded by Alfred resident of the noise pollution caused by a rock crusher. Recording was taken a 1/2 mile from the applicants, Gorham Sand and Gravel's Libby Pit rock crusher.
Please remember this sound would be the constant soundtrack to your life, M-F 7am-5pm and Sat. 8am-1pm.
Also, the proposed industrial quarry site in Alfred would be worse because the blasting, drilling and screening processes are significantly louder.
